Taryn Cuper is the sole proprietor, designer, and silversmith behind Greeneyedtaj Jewelry. Largely self-taught, she creates each piece of jewelry in her home studio using traditional silversmithing techniques. Though she spent much of her childhood writing, drawing, and collecting rocks, Taryn initially took a different path in life, obtaining degrees in science and engineering and embarking on a challenging and successful career in research and analysis. But when her family moved to Georgia, Taryn put her career on hold to focus on her children.
As many child rockhounds do, Taryn had made jewelry for years - beading and basic wire work. She loved turning stones into something beautiful that you could wear, identify with, and show to the world, Here! This is a facet of ME! But no matter what she tried, Taryn felt a never ending frustration that she couldn’t manipulate metal the way she needed. After moving to Georgia, Taryn’s husband gifted her a silversmithing class and she knew she had finally found the fulfillment that a “successful career” could not provide. Learning to smith was like parting the clouds and feeling the sun on her face.
Taryn built her home studio inch by inch, tool by tool, carving out space in a home overrun by two rambunctious boys and a dog. The sheer volume of tools one can employ to create jewelry is staggering and then she had to figure out where to put it all! Taryn strives to progress and hone her skills daily, always establishing new boundaries. Sometimes, it’s one step forward and two steps back. But other times, it’s five steps forward and how amazing is that! Creating is a love and the process is part of the joy. Always looking for the next hurdle, always pushing her way forward, and always striving to forge a new pinnacle.

During the studio tour

Taryn will demonstrate some cold processes throughout the show, e.g., sawing, filing, sanding.
Taryn will talk attendees through her technique and answer any questions.
She will have sterling silver jewelry that she has fabricated by hand for sale.
Items will be made with solid sterling silver, fine silver, and natural stones.
They will include necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings.

more about the silversmith and her jewelry

Greeneyedtaj Jewelry is one of a kind and hand fabricated in solid sterling and fine silver. I use traditional silversmithing techniques with an eye for clean, high-impact design to create meaningful and lasting works of art. With an academic background in science and engineering, I strive for precision and balance, turning an objective eye to how a design will wear while it makes a statement.
Each piece starts as silver sheet and wire. I saw, file, sand, solder, set stones, and finish my pieces by hand. Many of the stones I use are rare or of an uncommon presentation. This includes both precious and semi-precious stones as well as a wide variety of turquoise from the US and around the world. Stone quality is of the utmost importance to me and I continually seek out lapidary artists who artfully handcraft each stone in order to be showcased.
Forming metal and stone into something beautiful is my passion. I am constantly developing my skills, pushing to the next level, and tackling each new challenge with excitement and focus. Above all, my goal is to create treasures in which another shares in my point of view, sees what I see, and makes it their own.
