Sherry Cook Studio

Newnan artist Sherry Cook knew she wanted to make her living with a paintbrush since winning first place in her first-grade art show. More than 40 years later, that early certainty has grown into a rich and continually evolving career encompassing painting, handmade paper, mixed media, ceramics, sheet metal, encaustics, frescos and wood constructions.

A graduate of the University of Georgia with a BFA in Textile Design, Sherry creates work filled with warmth, personality and an unmistakable sense of joy. Love, family, friendship and nature appear again and again—enduring themes drawn from her own life and the natural world surrounding her wooded lakeside home and studio in Newnan. Faith and spirituality guide her creative process, often leading her toward a fresh idea or an entirely new body of work.

Sherry’s work has been exhibited and collected well beyond Georgia, with pieces held in private, corporate, and permanent collections including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, IBM, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Manheim Corporation, the Coweta County Fairgrounds, and the LaGrange Art Museum.

During the Southern Hands Artist Studio Tour, visitors will discover the remarkable range of an artist who continues to explore, experiment, and follow wherever inspiration leads, with the hope that every piece brings a little joy to the place where it lands.
