After retiring from a corporate scientific career, Rae Marie Crisel began a new creative chapter as a ceramic artist. More than 20 years later, she continues to explore the possibilities of clay through functional forms, sculptural pieces and her particular passion for wood-fired pottery. Inspired by nature, Rae Marie creates one-of-a-kind work with rich surfaces, organic details and a strong sense of movement. Her creative philosophy, “Beauty in Use,” reflects her belief that art should not simply be admired—it should become part of everyday life. Each piece is designed to be used, enjoyed and appreciated for the marks of the hands and firing process that make it unique. During the Southern Hands Artist Studio Tour, visitors can meet Rae Marie, watch her demonstrate at the pottery wheel, learn more about her process and shop a selection of handmade pottery from Crisel Creations.
