Paintings - Mixed Media, Acrylics, Cold Wax/Oils

Fayetteville artist Brenda Erickson finds inspiration in the small, easily overlooked details of the natural world — from moss beds and acorn caps to birdsong and shifting light. Her mixed-media abstract paintings reflect a lifelong fascination with texture, beauty, and the quiet spaces that invite closer observation.

Brenda begins each painting without a predetermined plan, allowing the work to develop as an ongoing conversation between herself and the canvas. Layers, marks, and unexpected turns gradually reveal the direction of the piece through experimentation, discovery, failure, and success. She knows a painting is complete only when it finally seems to say, “I am ready.”

Brenda earned a BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After stepping away from painting to raise her three children, she became an AMI Montessori teacher—another creative practice that shaped her appreciation for curiosity and discovery. Today, she has returned to making paintings that are deeply beautiful, meaningful, and reflective, with the hope that each painting will speak personally to the viewer.
