En Plein Air painting is the practice of leaving the four walls of the studio and painting in the open air. Artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Homer, Sargent and Wyeth were all known for their paintings of landscapes, figures and still life painted in the open air setting. Monet was known for painting the same scenes at different times of the year and day with attention to light and color changes. Most plein air painters are impressionistic in style because of the rapid changes in light during the effort of capturing the image on the canvas. In order to record the 'a la prima' an artist must be quick to capture the moment.
Join artist Lydia Ellis and other plein air painters on Saturday from 9:00-5:00 to see this practice demonstrated. They will be set up at various points on the property, and you are invited to watch and interact as they capture their new work on canvas!
