Sherry Cook- mixed media painter
During her 35-year career as a professional artist Sherry Cook has journeyed through ceramics, handmade paper, mixed media, sheet metal and encaustics. Over her long art career the unifying theme has been the exploration of texture and color.
From 2015 through 2017 Sherry sailed extensively and not surprisingly her adventures inspired her art. Recurring themes include sailboats, abstracted canoes, coastal wildlife and angels (her necessary constant companions) Sherry’s current medium of choice is modeling paste and acrylic on wood or canvas which she uses to create contemporary paintings with a feeling of antiquity.
Over the years Sherry has sold her work through galleries, arts festivals, and private commissions from The Caribbean to Europe. Her pieces hang in permanent collections at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, IBM, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Manheim Corporation, Coweta County Fairgrounds and the LaGrange Museum, to name a few.
Sherry Cook is a graduate of The University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Textile Design. She makes her home part of the year on a 35-acre wooded retreat in rural Georgia that allows her (even when not sailing) to “live in the sunshine and drink the wild air” as suggested in one of her favorite quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
