5th Annual Southern Hands Artist Studio Tour • November 11 & 12
Deadline for Artist Applications May 30th
Southern Hands Artist Studio Tour (SHAST) would like to invite you to be part of a growing South Metro Atlanta event. SHAST is a juried event.
NEW in 2017
· SHAST expanded to include studio locations in Coweta County.
· Increased Guest Artist Opportunities: Artists throughout the state and those in Fayette and Coweta who do not have studios are eligible to showcase and demonstrate their art as guest artists at participating studios in the two counties.
· No charge to visitors.
· Triple the amount of advertising throughout metro Atlanta and the state
· Addition of many new social media outlets (Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) to exponentially increase the reach to potential buyers and visitors.
· We will be filming artists in their studios doing demos, talking about their art and posting them on our new YouTube channel, our website and our various social media outlets.
· We have set up a group on Facebook for SHAST artists to post art for sale year-round. We are aggressively adding new potential buyers.
· New, updated website which now includes blogs, continually updated information, and, as always, a page for each artist with links to your web sites and social media, plus your contact information.
SHAST was started by local ceramic artist Andrea Boswell to showcase the wonderful artists in the region, to educate those curious about the creative process and to inspire future artists. Artists open their studios to the public for a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of how they make their unique art.
Artists demonstrate, sell, sign up new people for their classes and more. All types of art are eligible although we do limit the number of artists in each category. The variety of art covers the spectrum to include painting, fused glass, weaving, metal, ceramics, jewelry, woodturning, fabric art, photography and mixed media.
Last year visitors came from Tallapossa, Vinings, Marietta, Woodstock, Carrollton, and, of course, the south metro area. We want this to become an event people put on their calendar, travel to from surrounding states and stay overnight.
SHAST is held the 2nd weekend in November each year. Visitors are provided a map and may start at any studio. Along with art, information and fun, guests enjoy a variety of refreshments at each studio. Some local restaurants and sponsors offer special discounts to SHAST visitors (we are working hard to expand these perks for SHAST attendees).
To learn more about SHAST visit the new, updated website, www.SHASTour.com, follow along on Twitter: @shastga, Facebook: artstudiotourga, or sign up for SHAST Blasts on the website.
Have you followed us on Pinterest yet? We're setting up a Board for each SHAST artist and posting your work on the Board. The link to all our social media accounts is at the bottom of the page in the footer and over to the right on this page.
Our SHAST Art for Sale page is growing fast! We've only had it for about a week and we have over 400 in the group. The only people who can post are SHAST artists so the rest (over 375 and counting) are potential buyers for your art. Add your friends to the group.
We have a YouTube account, too. Once we get settled and things slow down a bit we'll be posting videos to the page promoting SHAST artists. If you'd like to add one of your videos to the page let us know.

We've started a new Facebook group: SHAST Art for Sale. Accepted Tour members are the only ones able to post in the group. Other members can buy art, comment on the links, but you are the only ones able to post items for sale.
We just started the group and already have over 300 members.
To help us grow add your friends to the group. You can invite them or just add them, whatever you are comfortable doing. The more people in the group the more opportunities for sales.
We'll explore other options to promote your art throughout the year. Suggestions welcome.

Invite one of your friends with musical talent to play during certain times during your studio tour.
If it's someone who plays at local bars, restaurants or hangouts you can maximize your reach by asking them to share info on the Tour, when they'll be at your place to their followers, in their newsletters, etc.
We'll post a link to their page / website on your page on our website, put their info out, help spread the word. If they team up with a few of you or we can swing it, we'll pop them on the sponsor page.
Maybe you can offer then a piece of art in exchange for playing. It's a win-win if they are interested in reaching new audiences and would appreciate the advertising we will do for them. Then again, a lot of artists and musicians get real tired of hearing that it's "good exposure" so maybe you had better stick to giving them a nice piece of your art!

Get your favorite restaurant to donate food for your studio, tell them you'll put their menus out by the food, plus have a stack of coupons for visitors if they're willing to do a discount. Ask the restaurant to let us put postcards or tent cards at the register or on the tables. Or put a flyer on their bulletin board if they have one. Win, win, win for all.
The deadline for entry is May 30th. However, we are approving artists as we receive applications. As soon as we receive your application we'll begin review your studio and/or art and let you know if you've been juried into the Tour.
This is our 5th year and we're excited about all the new artists joining us and the changes we've made.
We added a new county - Coweta. That means that guests will be able to visit many more studio. We'll be updating the website to allow people to view artists by medium, by county, by name and by location.
The Tour is also FREE to visitors this year. That should translate to more people in your studio.
We're also increasing our advertising.
We hope you'll join us this year and help make this the best year ever.
